Events9th UNESCO/IAHS Kovacs Colloquium : River Basins – from Hydrological Science to Water Management
From 2008-06-06 to 2008-06-07
Venue: Paris, France
Summary: Jointly
organized by UNESCO-IHP and the International Association of
Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), the 9th Kovacs Colloquium will be held at
UNESCO headquarters just prior to the 18th session of the IHP
Intergovernmental Council (9-14 June 2008). The provisional programme
of the colloquium will be announced at a later date. During the
Colloquium simultaneous interpretation in English and French will be
available. Registration is free but a registration form (available
online on the colloquium website) should be filled in and submitted.
The discussions during the colloquium will later be reported in an
issue of the Hydrological Sciences Journal. The proceedings of the
Colloquium will be pre-published in the IAHS Press Red Books Series.

MODFLOW and More: Ground Water and Public Policy
From 2008-05-19 to 2008-05-21
Venue: Golden, Colorado, USA
Summary: The
MODFLOW conference series has become a tradition for the presentation
of cutting-edge practical application of ground water models in all
aspects of hydrologic work. The conference will include keynote
speakers on a wide range of topics, contributed oral presentations and
poster sessions (both oral and poster papers will be published in a
proceedings volume), exhibitors, short courses, and software
demonstrations. The purpose of this conference is to bring together
model users and developers to exchange ideas on the latest innovations
in model applications, discuss the capabilities and limitations of
currently available codes, and explore the needs and directions for
future developments.

UK Groundwater Modellers' Forum Workshop: Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
On 2008-01-31, from 0930HRS to 1600HRS
Venue: Priory Rooms, Bull St, Birmingham, United Kingdom
Summary: The UK Groundwater Modellers’ Forum Committee is holding a sixth workshop on the subject of Communication and Stakeholder Engagement on the 31st January, 2008.
Groundwater models are constructed to answer questions and inform decisions relating to various aspects of water resources and aquifer management. To maximise the usefulness of such models in decision making it is important that clear communication is maintained throughout the modelling process, from inception to the presentation of model results. The objectives of the workshop are to:
(1) Provide an overview of how models are used in decision making
(2) Review different ways in which model results can be presented
(3) Explore ways to improve stakeholder engagement
(4) Make recommendations on best practice and future R&D.

NMPI Workshop III: Consolidating developments & achievements
From 2008-01-28 to 2008-01-29
Venue: London, England, United Kingdom
Summary: The third NMPI workshop will be help at the BGS
offices at the Natural History Museum, London from 12am Monday 28th January to
4pm Tuesday 29th January. Directions to the office can be found here (www.bgs.ac.uk/contacts/sites/london/liohome.html).
The aim of the meeting is to review output from NMPI I & II. The
strategy document of the network will be discussed especially the
section on the development of novel methods and tools. A road map to
seek funding for research projects to test out ideas developed during
previous NMPI workshops is expected to be concretized. Participation in
NMPI III will be limited to invited guests and members of the network
only.
